History
The University Library began as the Palmer Building (Library South), constructed in 1958, and expanded into a second wing in 1969, Library North, and became known as the John F. Kennedy Memorial Library. In over 300,000 square feet, the Library historically housed the library's staff and general collections, as well as provided student study space. However, shifts in emerging technology, students habits, and university space needs have altered the historic use of the library. The Library today is a multi-faceted point of convergence. From student space and faculty offices to department occupants of the Divisions of Academic Affairs and Student Life, the Library serves students, faculty, and staff in a variety of ways.
