History
In 2002, pastry chefs Anne Walker and Kris Hoogerhyde started baking the most delicious sweets and selling them through Bi-Rite Market. When these two women outgrew their borrowed kitchen they opened the world-renowned Bi-Rite Creamery in 2006 on 18th Street. Bi-Rite Creamery was the first ice cream shop in San Francisco to use local, organic dairy from the Straus Family Creamery (located just 45 miles north of San Francisco) and make all recipes from scratch. Bi-Rite Creamery is best known for our Salted Caramel and Balsamic Strawberry ice creams, among other exceptional flavors. In spring 2019, the Creamery temporarily closed to undergo a mandatory San Francisco soft story seismic retrofit and renovation. When it reopened in June 2019, Bi-Rite Creamery had a fresh, new look and expanded menu to better serve its guests.
