History
In 2002, Joe Anderson purchased the historic Cohn Vineyard, a 39-year-old Pinot Noir and Zinfandel producing property which is part of a larger 55-acre ranch. In May of 2005 Anderson purchased an18-acre property with an existing winery facility in the Russian River Valley. In 2008, 40 more acres adjoining the property were purchased. The winery property now encompasses 60.5 acres, including 8.5 acres that were planted to Pinot Noir in 1997. Five acres were replanted in 2008 also to Pinot Noir. New vineyard plantings at the winery in 2009 include 11 acres of Pinot Noir, six acres of Chardonnay, and a small 1.5 acre vineyard of Viognier. A premier 16-acre property just outside of Freestone was also purchased in 2008 and is currently planted to Pinot Noir. Benovia Winery's first commercial release was the 2006 vintage.
