Bayside Community Center, formerly known as Bayside Settlement House, started by providing services to Italian and Portuguese fisherman and their families. Established in 1932, the center is located in north central San Diego and provides emergency services and advocacy to immigrants and refugees. Bayside is a collaborative partner with several groups and agencies from the San Diego community and multi-lingual services. Some of its activities include Community Outreach Program, Emergency Food, English classes, legal assistance and preventive health clinic. Bayside s community services program provides assistance to immigrant families for government programs such as Medi-Cal, health insurance and social security, emergency food and clothing and rental assistance. Additionally, it hosts programs sponsored by other area organizations including San Diego Community College District continuing education classes, such as English as a Second Language and sewing classes.
