History
The sailmaking business was originally started as Baxter & Gardiner Sailmakers servicing the yachts owners and boat builders on the west coast. The name was changed to Baxter & Cicero when Saint Cicero joined the company in April 1946 after his military service. Saint had a custom building designed for the special sewing pits needed and the open floor plan to spread out the sails. For many years this company was the largest sailmaking and canvas company in the area. Many others have come and gone but with the changing demographics and economy of he sailing industry, we have managed to diversify into several interesting segments, some not related to boats. When Saint retired in the early 1980's, the business had no one at the helm so employees Hank Thayer and Joan (Woodbury) Susman stepped up and put together a plan to take the company forward, 2012 celebrates the 75th year of Baxter & Cicero, Inc, Canvas & Sailmakers.
