The Parks & Recreation department is governed by The City of San Diego in It is responsible for acquiring, developing, operating and maintaining parks and recreation centers for residents and visitors. The department is involved in the maintenance of beaches, golf courses, aquatic centers, fishing facilities and beaches. It manages Balboa Park, which features a zoo, gardens, museums, and arts and international culture associations. The Parks & Recreation department supports ballet, jazz, tap and theatre activities. It also conducts sports and leisure activities for people with physical, mental and emotional disabilities. The department maintains golf courses, including Balboa Golf Course, Mission Bay Golf Course, and Torrey Pines Golf Course.
