HistoryThe Japan America Society of Southern California grew out of the need for a group in which both Japanese and Americans could meet socially on common ground. A group of Japanese and American friends in Los Angeles met in October 1908, where they discussed the establishment of the Japan America Society of Southern California. On February 21, 1909, the Society was officially launched at a banquet held in the Y.M.C.A. building in downtown Los Angeles. JASSC is the West Coast's premier educational and public affairs forum dedicated to the United States-Japan relationship offering up to 40 events and programs a year.SpecialtiesThe Japan America Society of Southern California was founded on February 21, 1909 to build economic, cultural, governmental and personal relationships between the people of Japan and America. We are a recognized 501(c)(3) non-profit, charitable and educational membership organization consisting of individuals and corporations with an interest in Japan and in United States-Japan relations. The Society maintains an active calendar offering a diversity of programs that help promote better understanding between Japan and America.
