History
The Inn opened its doors to travelers to Sacramento in 1984 in the towering Craftsman-style home at 1315 22nd Street Built in 1905 by a childless dentist and his wife, the upstairs originally consisted of a large ballroom and two bedrooms. The private bathroom of the Longfellow room was the shared bathroom and the downstairs room, currently the Lord Byron Room, was the maid's quarters. In 1986, Jane & Michael R. relocated here from San Diego and purchased the Inn. Extensive renovations began, adding private bathrooms to each guestroom and exchanging furniture, fixtures and decor. When the Mediterranean-style home next door at 1311 22nd came on the market in 1992, Jane and Michael added another house to the Amber House property. In 1996, the Inn grew again by purchasing and renovating the house across the street at 1320 22nd Street, currently known as Musicians Manor. Amber House earned its AAA Four-Diamond Award for Excellence in 1999 and has maintained it each year since.
