For more than 35 years, the Alpha Kappa Alpha Head Start pre-school has been preparing young kids for kindergarten through educational programs. It is a federally-funded program.
Director Valerie York brings years of experience to the center, and is proud to be able to help less privileged students, but also help their parents as well. The center offers parenting classes, parental workshops and even provides financial assistance for parents wishing to enroll in GED programs.
They accept applications throughout the year, but have a capacity for 80 students.
The center features a large playground area with a jungle gym, large sandboxes, slides and a seesaw. The children also participate in various games, arts and crafts to help enrich their lives.
