18th Street Arts Center has been a champion of the arts in the Santa Monica area for over 20 years. The center occupies a 25,000-square-foot lot on 18th Street that houses five buildings with space for two art galleries, the center's main office, a project room, 27 studios (live-in and workspace), and 10 commercial offices. The center acts as the umbrella provider for Highways Performance Space, EZ TV, Lightning Bolts Pix, and Continuum/Montage. The Artists in Residency program draws international, local/national, and original Arts Center artists with stipends as well as living and work space. The gallery space annually features the work of eight artists through the Artists Fellowship Program. Themes are created and submissions are reviewed. Recipients are given the opportunity to experiment and play when creating new work at the Center.
