History
Owned and operated by the non-profit organization, Studio for the Arts, inc., the Imperial started out in the old movie house in downtown Pocahontas. After sitting empty for 25 years, the Studio renovated the old landmark in one year with entirely volunteer labor. After 7 years, the building was bursting at the seams and plans for a new 2 million dollar facility began. In 2004, the Imperial and the Studio's educational programs moved into its new location across from Black River Technical College. Having to totally renovate the new building after the floods of 2011, the Imperial is still going strong, providing arts, education, and entertainment for the citizens of the region.
