The Yoemem Tekia Foundation is a grassroots non-profit organization in Tucson, AZ, dedicated to the preservation and presentation of Yaqui Culture and History. Founded in 1989 by Yaqui Traditional Elders and Community members, the foundation houses a museum with six cultural exhibits, offering workshops on traditional practices such as flower making, embroidery, and cooking classes, as well as hosting Yaqui history nights to share historic and cultural information.
With a mission to preserve Yaqui Culture, Customs, History, and Traditions, the Yoemem Tekia Foundation was established by the late Traditional Chief and Spiritual Leader Anselmo Valencia Tori. Located on the original site of the Pascua Yaqui Historic Dome, the foundation collects and showcases historically and culturally significant artifacts, manuscripts, photos, and audiovisual objects, while also operating a gift shop and mini café snack bar to support its programs and events.
