Established in 1983, United Food Bank is a community-based, private, nonprofit organization that provides hunger relief and food assistance by collecting, acquiring, storing and distributing food and related commodities through a network of social services agencies. It serves Maricopa, Gila, Pinal, Apache and Navajo counties in Arizona. The organization works in partnership with other nonprofit organizations that serve low-income hungry and food insecure families and individuals. United Food Bank offers the Kids Cafe program, which serves evening meals and snacks five nights in a week to at-risk children. It also offers the Helping Hands, a community outreach program that focuses on volunteers in the human services industry who need emergency boxes for their clients. The organization is located in Mesa, Ariz., and is affiliated with the Association of Arizona Food Banks and United Ways.
