History
Sunset began receiving funding through a Public Health Service grant to the Yuma County Migrant Health Program in 1972. Services were provided out of a trailer in Somerton during those early days. The organization began operating under the name of Valley Health Center in 1976. The center employs approximately 254 health care professionals of whom 30 are physicians, dentists, pharmacists, or mid-level practitioners serving 30,000 users (inclusive of 6,000 migrant workers). In response to community needs, clinic staff expanded rapidly over the years. Sunset Community Health Center is an important part of the healthcare safety net and continues to expand sites and services to meet the needs of the communities we serve.
