History
We are a locally-owned, family business. Native plant nerd and horticulturist Peter Gierlach (Petey Mesquitey) began Spadefoot Nursery in 1996 after moving from Tucson to the Apacheria in Cochise County. For the past few years his plants have mostly been available at the Bisbee Farmers' Market. In 2018 he began to work with his daughter Katy Gierlach (Sweetie Mesquitey), and son-in-law Jared McKinley (Kitty Katt) to sell plants in Tucson. Today they all collaborate to make native plants (as well as heirloom garden vegetables and herbs) available in southern Arizona. During the spring and summer of 2018, Katy and Jared will be selling plants in Tucson at pop-up sales around town, and starting May 5, will be at the new MSA Annex every Saturday. Check our calendar for other dates.
