History
A senior Center that was in need of renovation and was too small for growing programs and number of users and no municipal swimming pool for lessons or affordable family leisure activities prompted initial consideration of a voter initiated campaign. The citizens of Flagstaff wanted these facilities improved, remodeled or a new facility construction. The Bond Election in May of 2004 provided this opportunity. Prior to the Bond Election, the City of Flagstaff Parks & Recreation Division conducted feasibility studies. Flagstaff residents participated in a number of public meetings to tell us what they thought the community needed in a recreation facility. The end result of all the public input was a City Council approved remodel of the Adult Center to the Thorpe Park Community and Senior Center and funding to build a new aquatic and recreation multi-generational facility. The Aquaplex groundbreaking ceremony was held April 24, 2007 and construction was completed in late summer 200
