HistoryR.J. Gurley Custom Homes was founded in 1991 by Bob Gurley, a native of Northern California. After selling a successful business in Santa Cruz, participating in several commercial construction projects and acting as owner-builder on a custom home, Bob and his wife, Sue, headed to Arizona to turn a passion for construction into a custom home building company. Bob's first Arizona job was in the golf community of Desert Highlands, which paved the way for many more custom homes in the private golf communities of North Scottsdale. In 1994, after graduating from Arizona State University, John, Bob's son, joined the company as a Project Manager.
