Assistance League of Yuma, a chapter of Assistance League, is a nonprofit organization of volunteers committed to serving community needs in Yuma, Ariz. This chapter supports a number of initiatives, including scholarships, clothing drives and toy drives for children in that community. It also operates a thrift store, the proceeds of which fund its various projects. Assistance League was the first nonprofit, nonpolitical, nonsectarian organization founded in the Western United States to utilize volunteers to help those less fortunate. With approximately 24,000 members in 115 chapters throughout the country, Assistance League volunteers work more than 2 million hours each year to address the emotional and physical needs of children and adults of all ages through philanthropic projects. The organization was founded in 1935.
