The Nutrition Assistance Program, formerly known as Food Stamps, is coordinated by the Arizona Department of Economic Security. The program ensures that families in the state are provided with adequate nutrition. It is designed to assist low-income individual and families to obtain more nutritious foods. The program serves more than 200,000 families in the state. The Arizona Department of Economic Security is responsible for promoting the well-being and self-sufficiency of children, adults and families in the state. It provides family assistance and child protection and support enforcement services. The department also provides adoption and foster care services to teenagers, toddlers, infants and children with behavioral and medical needs.
