The U.S. Probation Office supervises offenders serving sentences in the community. The office oversees probation and supervised releases imposed by federal courts. It also supervises paroles granted by the U.S. Parole Commission and military authorities. The U.S. Probation Office investigates cases of convicted offenders and prepares reports in accordance with sentencing guidelines promulgated by the United States Sentencing Commission. The office is governed by the U.S. Court for the District of Arizona, which also operates the U.S. Pretrial Services, which conducts bail investigations on defendants charged with federal offenses. The court hears cases in Phoenix, Tucson, Flagstaff, Yuma and Prescott in Arizona.
