Created by the Federal Aviation Act of 1958, The Federal Aviation Administration, part of the United States Department of Transportation, is the federal agency charged with the regulation of civil aviation, fostering air commerce, issuing and enforcing air traffic rules, licensing pilots, certification of aircraft, establish and maintaining airways, and operating and maintaining aids to air navigation.
