Anchorage Social Services Division is a part of the Health and Human Services Department of the city of Anchorage, Alaska. The aim of the division is to meet the human service needs of the residents, and those who find themselves in need of assistance on a temporary basis. Its safe city program develops and maintains community prevention and intervention systems, which provide collaborative and multidisciplinary strategies, education, and planning in the areas of sexual assault, domestic violence, child abuse and neglect, substance abuse in high-risk populations, homelessness, and emergency alcohol services. It also has a senior citizen s advisory commission that conducts surveys, and compiles and disseminates information on housing, health, nutrition, transportation, education, recreation, legal services, and social and mental health services. Its women s commission recommends legislative and administrative action on women s issues.
