Duff's Backcountry Outfitters is a family run business that opened in the spring of 2003 ( previously named KRO-2 or Klothes Rush Outfitters 2 ). Owners Duff and Karla Ray moved to Skagway, Alaska in 1979 as a young broke married couple with a two year old daughter. Over the next 30 years, Duff and Karla truly have come a long way.In 1982 they opened the Kone Kompany, an ice cream, home-made fudge, and candy shop. They then opened a gift store that carried apparel necessities like socks, shoes, and underwear. Noticing that there wasn't a place to get high quality outdoor clothing or gear they began carrying brands like the North Face and Helly Hansen in a small section of their store in 19xx. Year after year that small section of clothing and gear became half the store and in 2003 the decision was made to open a store dedicated to outdoor apparel and gear called the Klothes Rush Outfitters 2. Opened just down the street the Klothes Rush Outfitters 2 started out slowly but quickly became a local and visitor favorite. Six years later the growth and success of the store has allowed a new look, logo, and location on 5th avenue next to RadioShack - another store owned by the Rays.So now in 2009 we are Duff's Backcountry Outfitters, proud providers of outdoor apparel and equipment for your Alaskan adventure. Owners Duff and Karla Ray and their Manager ( and youngest daughter ) Kristin Wagner welcome you to visit our store.
