The Attorney General of the Department of Law of the state of Alaska is a member of the governor s cabinet. The general heads up more than 500 professionals that work for the Department of Law. He serves as the legal advisor for the governor and other state officers. The Attorney General also prosecutes all violations of state criminal law. The general represents the state in all civil lawsuits and administrative proceedings to which the state is a party. He additionally enforces the consumer protection and unfair trade practices laws. The Attorney General protects rate payers in proceedings before the Regulatory Commission of Alaska (RCA), the state agency that regulates utilities.
