Alagasco distributes natural gas to nearly 460,000 customers in central and north Alabama. It is one of the largest natural gas utilities in the state. The Alabama Public Service Commission regulates the company. It has headquarters in Birmingham, Ala.; with operating divisions in Anniston, Gadsden, Montgomery, Opelika, Selma and Tuscaloosa, Ala. Alagasco is one of the two operating units of Energen Corporation, a diversified energy company with headquarters in Birmingham, Ala.
