The Montgomery Police Department provides law enforcement services, promotes public safety and protects the rights and property of the more than 200,000 residents of Montgomery, Ala. The administrative division includes the municipal jail, property and evidence units, police desk, word processing services and the records department. The detective division is made up of the crimes against property bureau, major crimes bureau, special investigations bureau and the crime scene bureau. The patrol division consists of three shifts that rotate 24 hours a day and the K-9 bureau, uniformed patrol squads, animal control bureau and the domestic violence unit. The traffic division is divided into the enforcement and accident Investigation units. The Montgomery Police Department employs more than 500 uniformed officers and approximately 200 civilian personnel.
