The Mobile Police Department recruits and trains police officers and offers public safety services and crime control measures. The department is headquartered in Mobile, Ala., and comprises various divisions, such as the Office of the Chief of Police, Field Operations Bureau and Support Services Bureau. The chief of police directs the activities of the police department and is in liaison with the other city departments. Its Office of the Chief of Police consists of an administrative and community services division that determines the allocation of resources and reviews and interprets departmental studies and investigative reports to project long-term strategies for an effective functioning of the Mobile Police Department. The department s internal affairs unit investigates complaints of misconduct by police officers and scrutinizes cases involving officers injured and killed on- and off-duty. Additionally, the Mobile Police Department has a special narcotics team to prevent illegal sale and distribution drugs. It also has a crime prevention unit that organizes outreach programs in schools and companies to provide education on security measures and the impact of drug use.
