In 1979 Linda Thompson and her sister went to work at a franchise called MailSort - Birmingham. The small business on the south side of Birmingham eventually sold to Linda and her husband Jerry. The two thought presorting would be a big part of the future of mail. In 1987 the company purchased property in the Airport Industrial Park and built the first section of what was to become the home of the largest mailer in Alabama. In 1991 the company purchased a machine to presort mail optically at speeds up to 36,000 pieces per hour. This machine was the first privately-owned of its kind in Alabama. MailSort offers lettershop services such as inkjet work, inserting, tabbing, metering, folding, trimming, bursting, shipping as well as pick-up and delivery with its fleet of trucks and drivers. Its additional services include presorting, laser printing, data processing and file transfer.
