History
In 1974, Georgia Kraft donated 20 acres of land that encompass the major sandstone formations, with the stipulations that the site was to be developed into a park and an access road be built for the public. In 1976 and 1977, The Nature Conservancy purchased 200 additional acres from Georgia Kraft. After an access road was built in the 1980s, the site quickly became very popular with hikers and campers and emerged as one of the Southeast's most popular rock climbing venues. In 2012 the site was developed into a park featuring a bath house, pavilion, and playground. Cherokee Rock Village is staffed 7 day a week and administered by the Cherokee County Parks & Recreation Board.
