Vocational Rehabilitation Service, also known as VRS, is one of the largest divisions of the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services. The division helps residents with disabilities through employment and related services. It coordinates with middle and high schools, junior colleges and universities to assist students in receiving educational opportunities. Vocational Rehabilitation Service operates from more than 20 offices throughout Alabama and offers assessment, evaluation and counseling, assistive technology, job placement, and orientation and mobility training solutions. The division administers a business enterprise program that includes employment opportunities for blind vendors and licensees in snack bars, cafeterias, vending machine facilities and gift shops. Vocational Rehabilitation Service serves over 17,000 adolescents and students with disabilities annually.
