Notre-Dame-des-Victoires Church, located in Place Royale in Old Quebec, is considered the oldest stone church in Canada, with its original walls dating back to 1688. Designated as a Marian sanctuary in 1855, the church is adorned with ex votos and artwork as tokens of gratitude for miracles attributed to the Virgin Mary.
Founded by Msgr. François de Laval, the church's history intertwines with that of Samuel de Champlain, with stones from Champlain's habitation incorporated into the church's structure. Continuing old traditions, the church celebrates a special mass on January 3 in honor of St. Genevieve, blessing and distributing bread as a symbol of trust in God and charity towards the less fortunate.
